Old
named Italian bowl-back This is an old, Italian bowl-back mandolin from the early 20th cetury. It is in good condition after restoration. There is a label which says… Domenico
Zanoni Fabbricanti
Instrumenti Armonica
This instrument is now fully restored. The top is sound but with
no repairs. It
has a 23-piece
rosewood bowl back with 1 seam repair. It has it’s the
original fingerboard in ebony, set on a shim. The
tuners and tail are originals.
The rosewood bridge is new. It retains its original
French polished finish,
except for the top which has been refinished with Tru-oil for
protection. It has been restrung with ultra-light
GHS bronze wound classical strings, and is now playing well with
a clear ringing sound with good volume.
It has
an easy action.
Other than cleaning, I have repaired as follows… 1)
refitted the fingerboard on a shim; 2) levelled the original brass
frets; 3) repaired an open
seam in the back; 4)fitted a
new rosewood bridge and refitted the nut; 5) repaired damage to the
scratchplate; 6) repair slight damage to neck veneer; 7)lightly finished
the top with Tru-oil; and 8) renewed anti-vibration felting.
