Old
Italian dome-back mandriola This is an old, German mandriola. Tuned like a mandolin, this has a bigger fuller sound. It is in good condition after restoration. There is a no label…
The top is sound and has no repairs. It
has a 7-piece
domed back with some damage repair. It
has a new wide ebony fingerboard
and new frets. The
tuners, bridge and tail are all new. The
instrument has been refinished after repair with a hard, light, oil
varnish, finish. It has been restrung with Pyramid
silver wound mandriola strings, and is now playing well with a full, clear, ringing tone, and good volume.
It has an easy action.
The fingerboard and top have been treated with ‘Lem-Oil’ to inhibit
the adherence of grease.
Other than cleaning, I have repaired as follows… 1)
repaired damage in the back; 2) fitted a new fingerboard and frets, and
levelled; 3) refinished throughout with Tru-oil; 4) replaced rusted
tuners and tailpiece; and 5) made and fitted a new ebony and bone
bridge. |
