Old named French violin 'La
Duchesse d'Angouleme' This is an old, full-size, French violin. It is in good condition after restoration. There is a label inside (difficult to photograph) but like this, though lacking the date.…
This
marque ‘La Duchesse d’Angouleme’, was manufactured by
Joseph-François Breton at Mirecourt, up until his death in 1837,
and then by Henry LAURENT and the brothers Nicolas et Michel
Fourier until 1887. The label afterwards seems to have become
‘Public Domain’ and was used by several makers to produce this this
very popular style of violin, which were mostly modelled after an
original by Guarneri. It appears towards the end of the 19th
century in the catalogues of Thibouville
and Laberte. Having no date, seems to put the construction of this
instrument some time between 1887 and the end of the century. They
are considered to be a good orchestral instrument. This
