14. French flatback mandola (317)  @ £200

Larger photos are available on request.

Old named French mandola

This is an old, French flat-back mandola from the early 20th cetury. It is in good condition after minimal restoration. There is a label which says…

Paul Beuscher

Luthier

23-29 Blvd. Beaumarchais, Paris

(It is however, sadly not dated or numbered)

This instrument is now fully restored. The top is sound but with no repairs.  It has a single-piece flat back. It has it’s the original fingerboard. The tuners and bridge are originals.  The tail-piece is new. It retains its original finish throughout, except for a couple of spots of damage. It has been restrung with GHS steel and phosphor bronze strings, and is now playing well with a strong, clear sound with good volume. It has an easy action.

Other than cleaning, I have repaired as follows… 1) repared a small section of open seam around the tail; 2) repaired a small chip in the back, lower right; 3) re-levelled the original frets; 4)refitted the nut and bridge; 5)and fitted a new tail-piece.
