Old
named Italian bowl-back This is an old, Italian bowl-back mandolin. It is in good condition after restoration. There is the remains of a label which says… Mandolino Il
Globo Fabbricanti
di Italia
This instrument is now fully restored. The top is sound with
NO repairs. It
has a 23-piece
rosewood bowl back with one or two seam
repairs. The original
rosewood fingerboard has been levelled, repaired, set on a
shim to aid playability. The enclosed
tuners and tail are originals. The rosewood bridge is new. It
retains the original French-polished
finish, though the top has a coat
Tru-oil for protection. It has been restrung with ultra-light
GHS bronze wound classical strings, and is now playing well with
a clean, bright, ringing
sound, and good volume.
It has an easy action.
Other than cleaning, I have repaired as follows… 1) repaired 2 open seam in the back; 2) re-fitted the fingerboard on a shim, touched up neck finish; 3) repaired a crack in the head; 4) replaced missing MOP edging; 5) fitted a new rosewood and bone bridge; 6) refitted the bone nut; 7) lightly finished the top with Tru-oil; and 8) renewed anti-vibration felting. |
